On Wednesday the 10th of June, the UK government announced plans for zoos to reopen from Monday the 15th of June providing adherence to social distancing measures was met.
Whilst we are thrilled to have an official confirmation that attractions like ours can soon welcome visitors once more, many had been aiming for an operational date of July the 4th on the advice of DEFRA, and it would therefore be unrealistic to expect appropriate measures to be in place at such short notice.
Now that guidelines have been published which specifically pertain to zoos, we can now begin to evaluate the most appropriate way to adapt our site to prioritise the safety of visitors, staff and animals. Our situation faces additional challenges due to being placed within the grounds of a garden centre, so alternative access arrangements may be required.
Initially, we will likely be admitting visitors by booked appointment only, with priority being given to people who already have tickets or annual passes so as to allow them the opportunity to use them. For the time being, flying displays and experience sessions remain cancelled until further notice.
Once our full plan for opening has been finalised, it will be published on our website. As a Visit England assured attraction, we hope to meet the standards of their upcoming COVID-19 accreditation.
We would like to thank our supporters both new and old for all the help they have given us during this time, and we hope to be able to see you all again soon.
